Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger made an appearance in downtown Milledgeville on March 4 and left the following morning with accusations of sexual assault on a GCSU student hanging over his head. A Milledgeville police officer was approached outside the Capital City nightclub between the hours of 11 p.

According to a Public Safety report, March 6 at approximately 12:14 a.m. officer Gary Purvis observed a male try to enter Maj. Joe Grant's police car which was parked behind Amici. The enforcement lights were activated and the vehicle was locked.

GCSU braces for budget cuts

After weeks of discussion about state funding of Georgia's higher education system, GCSU President Dorothy Leland released a budget plan that could possibly cut an additional $5,356,378 from GCSU's budget, according to the Board of Regents. The plan calls for a total budget reduction of over $9 million for the 2011 fiscal year.

8.8 Earthquake Rocks Chile

An earthquake of magnitude 8.8 hit Chile on Feb. 27, followed by aftershocks and a tsunami. Death toll estimates range from the hundreds into over 1,000. The earthquake has damaged over 1.5 million houses, forcing millions to be displaced. The natural disaster was 700-800 times stronger, but at a greater depth within the earth, than the earthquake in Haiti in January.
